Freight transport: from Germany to Germany

Lithuanians love travelling to Germany: highways are free to passenger cars and in some cases speed is unlimited. Professional drivers are also visiting this country: Germany is a frequent and attractive location for freight transport. Germany is often a transit country because it is located in the centre of Europe: it is virtually impossible to reach the southern and western part of the continent without crossing the most populated country in Europe.

Freight transport: from Germany to Germany

Germany

Both full and partial cargoes are transported to Germany frequently but not always fast. It’s not possible to tell the precise time of travel from Lithuania to Germany since it depends on the region. The crossing from the north to the south can take longer than a day.

It is easy to navigate in Germany: highways are well-maintained and the network of main streets in many cities has been designed in the last century. This is not a common thing in Europe so partial cargoes from Germany to Lithuania are easily collected and delivered.

However, Germany’s highways aren’t perfect: many sections are under repair so freight transport from Germany has to be precisely planned. There are fewer tractor units in these sections. When there are 4-5 sections under repair for several kilometres, freight transport from Germany takes a long time. Due to repairs and heavy traffic, many drivers ironically smile: “On the way to Germany”.

Highways are farther from the major cities but heavy traffic is also here at peak times. Therefore, precise freight forwarder’s job is crucial while arranging partial cargo transportation from Germany to Lithuania. Their ability to see the speed needed to pass each section between the cities and route arrangement avoiding not only sections under repair but also peak times near the cities influence how fast the cargo will be delivered from Germany to Lithuania.

Precise route planning is important not only for freight transport to Germany but also in the case when it is a transit country. Congestions are possible not only near the biggest cities. Road construction, accident or other circumstances can also cause congestion. Therefore, it is important not only to plan the precise route (Germany–Lithuania, France–Lithuania or other) but also react to changing traffic quickly.
